THE ARCHIGRAM PORTFOLIO COLLECTION
During the Fall of 2013 Archigram member Dennis Crompton made a tour of five schools of architecture in the north east of the United States. The final visit to to the architecture school of Pensylvania University at College Station. There were the usual variety of crits, tutorials, seminars and lectures over vour days. The last event was the opening of a small exhibition of Archigram drawings and a looping performance of the Archigram Opera, four screen multi-media peformance.
The selection of drawings for the exhibition was based on the Archigram Portfolio – a collection of twelve iconic Archigram works reproduced in celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the first Archigram exhibition, Living City, in 1964.
The Portfolio is conceived as a 'corridor exhibition' to be hung in any school not having a gallery space. These works were augmented by further twenty all of which were hung against a background of giant enlargements of three other drawings.
The Archigram Portfolio Collection has now been issued as a Limited Edition of fifty certified Giclee archival prints on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper. The Collection is available to purchase or on loan to schools of architecture, libraries or other institution or to individuals. Single prints may also be purchased from the Archives.
The cost of individual prints in the Uk and Europe is £400.00 plus VAT if applicable and the delivery charge. Elsewhere in the world is US$600.00. A discount is available on purchase of six or more prints.

This collage was commissioned by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, in 1974 and is the first in a set of sixteen describing the work of Archigram and in particular three projects in Monte Carlo. It was produced in the Archigram office using photographic prints of various well-known projects and a short descriptive text. The collage was then coloured using felt-tipped pens.

The colour version at MoMA is a photomechanical print overdrawn with ink and guache. The work is made up of a series of drawings and sketches all of which were black ink line on tracing paper. The Tower was drawn in sections (as above left), then printed, cut out and pasted up to make the complete elevation. On the first occasion when it was published (The Sunday Times Colour Supplement of 20th September 1964 the colour was added by the printers. The various drawings were printed and mounted on board. Colour was added using colour film. All the original drawings and sketches are in the Deutches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt.

Photomechanical prints were then produced, coloured and collaged by Peter whilst in Los Angeles. The coloured prints were profile cut and mounted on blue mount board (in London) with black and white ink line work added. The boards were then mounted together in a frame to produce the full art work (as lower). The original ink-line elevation drawings and a hand-coloured version are in the FRAC Collection, Orléans, France.

The original art work for this piece is a collage of high-contrast photocopies of housing and scaffolding elements and the elevation drawing of David’s Living Pod to which he added shading. This was then used to make the stencil for a silk-screen print. The original collage and samples of the silk-screen print are in the Archigram Archives. A copy of the silk-screen print is in the FRAC Collection, Orléans, France.
